This project explores the benefits of using generative artificial intelligence (AI) techniques on FET PET imaging for patients diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer. FET PET scans are increasingly valued in diagnosis, but result in patients receiving radiation to create them and applying generative AI to these scans is uncommon. This research is exploring whether we can create a FET PET scan from an MRI scan using AI. If successful it would be the first of its kind in this area and generate FET PET images from MRI scans could eliminate the need for additional patient radiation, expand access to FET PET in areas where it’s not available, and help patients who can’t undergo FET PET scans. The model can be validated using existing MRI-based brain cancer imaging data, aiming to create an AI framework that enhances patient comfort and safety.
